Why Saint Meinrad

Student Life

Saint Meinrad draws students from throughout the United States and around the world. They bring various talents and gifts, a wide variety of life experiences, and a diversity of ethnic, cultural and racial backgrounds. From this diversity, the Student Life Program nurtures a community founded on mutual understanding and fosters friendship. The program also assists students in their personal and social growth and calls them to authentic Christian discipleship.

Room, Board and Facilities
Two residence halls provide student housing. Sherwood Hall, where most new students are housed, has private rooms. St. Anselm Hall has private rooms with baths. Each student has a private telephone line. Direct-dial long-distance service and Internet access are available.

During the school year, meals are served three times a day, seven days a week, except during Christmas and Easter vacations, when students can purchase meals through the Archabbey Food Service.

Guest Accommodations
On-campus guest accommodations are available at the Archabbey Guest House. In addition, some rooms in the residence halls may be available for guests of students.

Campus Bookstore
The Scholar Shop is located on the ground floor of Newman Hall. Students will find academic and religious books, supplies, and a variety of Saint Meinrad items here.

Other Services
Services available to students include: laundry machines, tailor and shoe repair, barber, video library and the Abbey Press Gift Shop, which offers student discounts on gift items.

Student Government
The Student Theological Society is the official delegated voice of the full-time student body. Its elected representatives sit as full members on faculty and administrative committees. They represent student opinion, serve as channels of communication, and assist in planning and implementing programs.

Recreation and Athletics
Two gymnasiums provide areas for basketball and volleyball, weightlifting and exercise equipment. Outdoor facilities include tennis and racquetball courts, lakes for fishing, and paths and rural roads for walking, running and biking. National and state parks for hiking and camping are nearby. A wellness director and student volunteers oversee an intramural sports program.

Concerts, performances and lectures are scheduled throughout the year in on the Saint Meinrad campus. The UnStable, a student-operated pub on campus, provides a place where students and guests can relax and enjoy camaraderie.

Health Services
Archabbey Health Service provides professional care to students at all times. A school physician is on call when needed. Local hospitals are nearby for serious illness or injury.

Health Insurance
The School of Theology urges students to carry adequate health insurance. The School offers full-time students the opportunity to enroll in a group insurance plan.

Counseling Services
The School provides full-time students with the possibility of personal growth through individual counseling and group counseling under professional supervision.

Self-Evaluation Process
Each year, full-time resident students participate in a self-evaluation process under the direction of a faculty advisor. A committee of faculty and administrators reviews the student's statements and offers comment. The process helps students assess their growth over the past year and set goals for the coming year.
