Program for Formation in Hispanic Ministry
The Catholic Church in the United States is expected to be majority Hispanic by 2015. Priests must be prepared to minister effectively and completely in this multi-cultural environment. Saint Meinrad School of Theology is able to help dioceses and their priests-in-training meet this challenge.
Seminarians at Saint Meinrad have the opportunity to learn about Hispanic cultures, language and ways of living their Catholic faith through a program fully integrated into their Master of Divinity studies. The Program for Formation in Hispanic Ministry is a three-track program designed to prepare bilingual (Spanish-English), bicultural ministers for the Church.
Distinct tracks for Hispanic and non-Hispanic students provide the specific skills development and theological reflection needed. The program also offers immersion opportunities in Guatemala and Mexico. The goal is to prepare future ministers who can successfully address the liturgical, spiritual and social needs of their parish communities.
Dioceses and students benefit from this program because the courses and theological reflections are integrated into the student's theological work and the program can be completed as part of the regular Master of Divinity degree requirements.
