Campaign Goals

New Construction & Renovation $21,000,000
Providing Appropriate Housing $5,300,000
Built in 1920, the student residence Sherwood Hall has never been updated. This planned renovation will provide modern, age-appropriate living quarters for the requirements of today's seminarians, including private baths, air conditioning, and technology compatibility. The new accommodations will also provide spaces designed specifically to enhance the experience of prayer, reflection, study and community.
Enhancing The Liturgy Experience $2,000,000
St. Thomas Aquinas Chapel is the spiritual heart of the School of Theology community. It is here that students, faculty, staff and guests gather daily for the Eucharistic celebration and communal morning prayer. Here, too, can be found opportunities for private prayer or community celebrations. This renovation will include a new narthex, increased access, and improvements to sound, lighting, environmental controls, flooring, and furnishings—all designed to enhance the liturgy experience.
Welcoming All Visitors As Christ $5,200,000
The current guest facility, which is filled almost every weekend, is nearly 45 years old and has serious shortcomings. Its small size limits participation in retreats and conferences, thereby constraining the Archabbey's ability to extend hospitality according to the Benedictine tradition and instruction. A new Guest House will increase the number of overnight rooms by 50%, and include conference rooms, a chapel, dining room, welcome center, additional parking, and an enhanced entrance to the Saint Meinrad campus. It is expected to generate income sufficient to cover most of its operating costs.
Offering Lifelong Learning $3,700,000
The renovations planned for Continuing Education facilities will improve efficiency and enhance the reputation and visibility of the School of Theology's programs in this rapidly growing area. New housing for participants must also be provided, as dormitory-style accommodations are not appropriate for these typically older adults. Access for the physically challenged must be improved as well. Existing facilities (which haven't been renovated since the mid-1960s) will be reconfigured to create the new spaces required.
Encouraging Healthy Lifestyles $4,000,000
Healthy lifestyles and regular exercise are critical for seminarians, priests and monks to flourish in the intensity of the modern Church—as well as a highly effective ingredient in controlling healthcare costs. The two existing gymnasiums at Saint Meinrad are simply inadequate for these goals and each is over 70 years old. A new Physical Fitness and Lifelong Wellness Center will be created from renovated and new space, and will include a gym, racquet sports court, a walking track, and other fitness and exercise rooms. It will be available for use by not only the students and monks of Saint Meinrad, but retreatants, continuing education participants, co-workers, and others associated with "the Hill."
Answering God's Call $800,000
The goal of Saint Meinrad's youth and vocations program is to stimulate an excitement about theological learning among young people and to draw this generation into discernment and possible vocations as priests, lay ministers, or vowed religious. Initially funded by a three-year grant from Lilly Endowment Inc., campaign gifts are sought to air condition the hall that houses this summertime program and to develop specific activity areas.
Sustaining Endowments $9,000,000
Respecting Those Called To Be A "Teacher" $2,500,000
An exceptional theological education requires an exceptional faculty. Endowment funds will provide Saint Meinrad with a secure source of income to enhance faculty salaries and benefits to maintain and recruit the highest quality teachers. These funds will bring Saint Meinrad in line with its peer schools and ensure that graduates will continue to be distinguished by the depth and excellence of their theological training.
Building Minds And Skills $1,000,000
Excellence in scholarly resources is fundamental to the intellectual and theological life of Saint Meinrad. The endowment dedicated to enhancing our resources will allow for the maintenance of the existing library collections, as well as support the growing and increasingly essential use of technology for classroom and distance education.
Empowering Our Next Generation $1,000,000
The primary youth-oriented program at Saint Meinrad is the Youth Liturgical Leadership Program. This is a continuation of youth development in general and is designed to introduce young people to, and potentially lead them into, embracing a religious-based vocation or lifetime dedication. The success of the program can be seen in the number of former high school participants who are now returning from college to serve as leadership interns and considering a lifelong commitment to the Church. This endowment will sustain the program, particularly the internships available for college students.
Equipping Our Parish Leaders $500,000
The Church Leadership Center was established with a grant from Lilly Endowment Inc. and provides current and future priests and lay ministers with training in the professional and pastoral skills needed in a contemporary Catholic parish. Areas of instruction range from budgeting and financial management to preaching, counseling and facilitating. An endowment will sustain the Center's work, specifically by meeting the cost of staffing.
Recognizing A Lifetime Of Devotion $2,000,000
Funds raised through the campaign for the purpose of healthcare will be combined with existing endowments for the care of the monks to help ensure that Saint Meinrad has the resources to provide quality medical and long-term care for every member of the community. These men have devoted their lives to prayer and work—to the service of the Church and to the work of Saint Meinrad. In return, they deserve no less than the most secure future we can provide for them.
Enhancing The Journey $2,000,000
The new Physical Fitness and Lifelong Wellness Facility that has been identified as a new addition to the Saint Meinrad campus is a necessary and important ingredient in the holistic life of the monks, students, retreatants and co-workers of "the Hill." An endowment exclusively for the support of this facility will provide for a significant portion of its ongoing operation and maintenance expenses.
Continuing Support For Operations $10,000,000
Sustaining The Day-To-Day $10,000,000
Annual gifts for day-to-day operations of Saint Meinrad play a critical role in maintaining its strength and quality. During the five-year capital campaign, continued operating support of at least $2,000,000 per year will help underwrite the ongoing programs and activities at the Archabbey and School of Theology.
TOTAL CAMPAIGN GOAL: $40,000,000
